TransForum 2014 Highlights Powerful New Logistics Solutions, Next Generation Business Intelligence Tools

Record 1,900-Plus Professionals Attend Transportation Industry’s Premier Technology Conference

CLEVELAND, Ohio, October __, 2014 — Throughout its 31-year history, the TMW annual customer conference and exhibition – known since 2007 as TransForum – has offered an invaluable opportunity for professionals in the transportation and logistics, private fleet, distribution, field service, oilfield services, construction and allied markets to explore emerging trends and technology solutions for the benefit of their businesses and careers. This formula has worked for more than a quarter-century, but perhaps never more so than this year, when a record number of industry professionals, including representatives of many of North America’s largest carriers and logistics service organizations, convened in Nashville in late September.

Over 1,800 participants took part in the broadest education curriculum in conference history, with nearly 330 sessions organized into six tracks: Business Intelligence; Business Improvement; Operations; Back Office; Technical; and Special Interest. Attendees also were able to learn about and use several powerful new solutions available through TMW and the nearly 50 other leading providers represented in the TransForum Technology Hub exhibition.

“TransForum isn’t simply a TMW customer conference – it is the transportation industry’s premier forum for identifying and exploring emerging business trends and valuable new solutions available within the technology space,” said TMW President David W. Wangler. “Our industry has perhaps never before faced as broad an array of competitive opportunities; I think everyone here would agree that technology will play the predominant role in helping all of us overcome the corresponding operational challenges.”

Among the most prominent of these challenges are what Wangler called the “technology silos” that have developed within the growing number of organizations pursuing both asset and non-asset based business models. He pointed to Trimble’s recent equity investment in software provider 3Gtms and TMW’s parallel agreement to market the innovative 3G-TM planning and shipment management solution as a proven path for achieving groundbreaking, real-time optimization across an entire transportation enterprise, be it a carrier, 3PL or other business.

Groundbreaking technologies were the focus of a luncheon address by engineer, physician and bestselling author Dr. Peter H. Diamandis, founder and chairman of the X PRIZE Foundation, a global “innovation engine” that challenges individuals and organizations to achieve radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. Diamandis enthralled the audience with a discussion of “exponential change” in technology, communication, transportation and human thought.

TransForum each year also serves as a forum to celebrate the accomplishments of industry organizations that have leveraged leading edge solutions to achieve impressive operational benefits. TMW executives presented the company’s 2014 Technology Awards to C.R. England (Asset Maintenance); BROSCO (Appian); Contrans Group Inc. (Innovative IES); McKinley Trucking Company, Inc. (TL2000); SCI Logistics (TruckMate); and CLI Transport, Inc. (TMWSuite).

While several conference speakers focused on what lies ahead for the transportation industry, a number of the most popular workshop presentations emphasized the invaluable benefits of benchmarking an organization’s current performance and utilizing advanced business intelligence tools to pinpoint areas of the greatest need and opportunity. James Langley, vice president, business analytics, presented preliminary results of the annual TMW Transportation and Logistics studies for the truckload irregular, dedicated and brokerage markets. Langley also covered the evolution of business analytics within the transportation marketplace, with the latest TMW solutions enabling users to make faster, better decisions to drive their businesses through a wide range of predictive analytics. Participants also responded favorably to a new wave of visual solutions and scorecards that provide the latest KPI’s in quickly digestible, easily understood formats.

“This has been an amazing experience,” said an operations manager for a large Canadian commercial carrier. “We were told that TransForum is a ‘can’t miss’ event, and that is absolutely true.  We really feel like we’re doing business with the industry leader.”

TransForum 2015 will be held September 13-16 at the Orlando World Center in Orlando, Fla.
